As a fiction storyteller, I have found that inspiration often comes in waves. And if this analogy were true, then I have been hit by a storm.
The deeper I delve into the history and lore, the more I find myself unearthing creative ideas for the episodic short story series I am developing to be titled The Black Tide Chronicles.
Albeit, some may be missing limbs, yet all of my characters seem to be standing well on their own.
This has given me a solid foundation to start looking at the bigger picture and seeing how I want to have my fictional characters face real historical figures and events.
I have found that the beauty in choosing daring pirate adventures as my first theme for my tales is that it has given me an exciting amount of undiscovered (or otherwise overlooked) source text to help create a vivid setting for my rebels and misfits sailing under the black flag.
Since this may feel like a new palette for some of my readers, I wanted to share a peek into the spoils of the story. If you are at all interested in reading my pirate tales in the not-so-distant future, you can expect:
If you are at all enticed by this story, or at least shiny things-- then you will want to stick around by following Dramatic Pause on Instagram. That is the sole social platform that stays up most up to date on all of the poetry and fiction projects I am working on.
I don’t have the time in the day to keep other platforms as updated as I do work full time professionally as a social media coordinator and I am very much in love with my job (much like Sparrow would love his pearl).
Leading up to the release of the first short story from The Black Tide Chronicles, I plan to continue to share quotes and spoiler-free excerpts to at least give readers a taste. These shared pieces will be under my Notes from Nassau collection, each numbered in roman numerals (in the order that they are shared).
Until next time--
