I've been inspired by pirate lore as of late.
Consider this a teaser to something special coming soon, brought by yours truly!
I think this upcoming short story series will do me good in storming character ideas and conflict for the other worlds I am working on. As eager as I am to tell the story of Elysium-- I feel as though I must first get my sea legs in character creation and conflict plotting. Most importantly, I will finally be able to go beyond my daily freeform poetry to share some of the worlds and characters I have created.
Friends, I will be candid with you. True to my stubborn nature, I ignored all warnings of the difficulty in pulling off a dual protagonist novel-- especially if said novel would be the first I were to publish.
After spending much time trying to figure the flaws and and backstory for Ellie and Jacksen, I realized that perhaps I needed to step back.
Elysium (albeit, perhaps a working title) has been my baby for the past 2 years. Alright-- I know some of you are thinking it, so I'll even link the video for you:
Both parts thrilling and demanding, world creation has to be one of my most favorite ventures in working on Elysium. Pulling a quote from one of my two beloved protagonists, Jacksen, I wanted to share a bit more of the language of Elysium.
Spirit: We know them more commonly as ghosts. But in the words of Jacksen-- “'Ghost' seems like a definitive dead end. 'Spirit' at least still gives us a feeling like we're meant for something more than just living and dying.”
Deadbeat: A spirit who has become permanently stuck in one place, whether it be in Elysium or the other side.
The Other Side: A spirit’s term for the plane of the living.
Elysium: Jacksen’s residence after death. He woke up with no recollection of his life before death, leaving him just as confused about the purpose of his actions as any living person. The story begins in the thick of his search.

The songs featured in this playlist are vignetted themes for the two main characters of the story, Jacksen and Ellie.
While learning creative new ways to introduce readers to the fiction world ofElysium, I've also already learned countless new lessons as a writer that have ultimately sharpened my pen as a storyteller. One of the most valuable lessons I've learned in particular is that through the many versions and drafts of revisions, the characters you create will never stop to grow until you've finalized your story.
With that being said, there is work that is yet to be done.
Soon entering the world of Elysium.
I have been hard at work in shaping the finer details for the characters and plotline of my first working novel fiction: Elysium.
Without wanting to give too much away– It's a story about ghosts, geeks, love, and dark laughs.
The story of Elysium will be told in the perspective of a ghost named Jacksen and a girl named Erin.
As I progress towards the completion of this project, I hope to share some of my favorite moments and excrepts (worth sharing without spoiling).
Stay tuned to get a sneak peek of the hidden city in the sky, Elysium.
