Her name (was) is Annie.
She talks in her sleep, and sometimes even cries. The words are usually unintelligible, but sometimes you can catch a name between her mumbles and whimpers.
She used to say my name in her sleep as if her subconscious compelled her to call for me to save her from whatever fears troubled her mind.
Whenever Annie did call for my name, I would always try my best to be the hero she saw in me.
Sometimes in life– you'll feel a tingling sensation in the pit of your stomach.
It is at these times, it's imperative that you look inward and address your gut-feelings with honesty, and in certain times, with courage.
My insides twisted, begging for my attention, and when I was able to finally make sense of the fluttering in my heart, it whispered me this:
"Share those confounded stories that you've been hiding away from the world..."
I nervously chuckled to myself before strapping down and throwing together a plan to carry out.
Something I could share.
Something I could be proud of.
–And here it is...
Dramatic Pause (dp) is a creative journal founded by myself (Deanna Paulsen)– featuring guest writers and artists who capture moments in life with a dramatic pause.
Whether it's a short story, poem, photo series, video or illustration, dp seeks to share meaningful stories from a high range of perspectives that command thoughtful and reflective attention from readers and followers.
In sharing our stories, our goal is to build a supportive community for storytellers to showcase their passions and talents in the company of ambitious creatives.
As the founder of this journal and young community, I aim to create a platform where fellow writers, artists, and performers can collaborate, share and build support for their own projects.
Interested in sharing your own story to the world?
Drop a line, and we'll make it happen right here.
This is the beginning of something beautiful. I can feel it in my stomach.
